The San Juan County Council has appointed Andy Holman and Johannes Krieger to the San Juan County Marine Resources Committee, a citizens’ committee that supports research, promotes stewardship of marine resources and advises the County Council on marine resource issues.

Holman is an avid sport fisherman, outdoorsman and conservationist. He is a founding member of the San Juan Islands chapter of Puget Sound Anglers, a member of Coastal Conservation Association and of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

Holman has a degree in finance and real estate from Colorado State University and is employed as a land surveyor with San Juan Surveying.

Krieger moved to San Juan Island in 1979 and founded Crystal Seas Kayaking in 1993 while studying biology, oceanography and economics at the University of Washington. He has been involved in the community through coaching for Friday Harbor High School, volunteering, mentoring and business consulting.

MRC Chairman Kit Rawson said of the appointments: “We thank Johannes and Andy for agreeing to serve and the council for appointing them. The committee and the community will benefit from their experience. Tourism and recreational fishing both depend on a healthy marine ecosystem and are critical to our economy and quality of life in the San Juans.”

San Juan County’s Marine Resources Committee belongs to a regional network of seven MRCs in the north Puget Sound dedicated to the protection of marine habitats and species.
