– Orcas Spring Lecture Series: “Natural History of Turtleback,” 7 p.m., Orcas Senior Center, off North Beach Road on Henry Lane, Eastsound. Saturday, June 7

– Relay for Life Garage Sale, 8:30-11:30 a.m., San Juan County Fairgrounds. Fundraiser for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Everything from small kitchen appliances to a used Izuzu Trooper. Cash donations also accepted.

– Farmers Market, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Courthouse parking lot. Part of the Summer Kickoff sponsored by the San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce.

– Intertidal Walk, 11 a.m., American Camp. Learn about plant and animal life, from algae to invertebrate animals, during this tide pool walk with biologists Bob Lemon and Mike Kaill. A minus tide (2.3 feet) is expected to peak at 1:19 p.m., so the program is not to be missed for tidepool lovers. Free. Call 378-2902.

– Jazz at the Labs, 6 p.m. dinner; 7-9 p.m. music, U.W. Friday Harbor Labs Dining Hall. The San Juan Jazz Quintet and Seattle’s Coalescence, a group of first-call jazz musicians, play two sets to help raise money for the K-12 Marine Science Outreach Program. – Iditarod Slideshow: 7 p.m., San Juan Island Library. Laura Daugereau, Washington’s first woman to compete in the Iditarod Sled Dog Race at the library, will tell about the historic 1,049-mile trail. See slides and listen to Daugereau share her story. Free. Call 378-2798.

– San Juan Island Artists’ Studio Tour, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A self-guided tour of 11 working studios with more than 26 artist-participants. Free drawing. Visit www.sanjuanislandartists.com.

Sunday, June 8

– Golf event: Second annual Spring Scramble, 2 p.m., San Juan Golf and Country Club. Sponsored by the local chapter of the San Juan Leos, affiliated with the Lions Club. This all-ages event is a fundraiser for the Leos and their charitable causes throughout the year. Cost: $40 adults, $20 students. Golf followed by 5 p.m. dinner. Call 378-3843.

– Listen Up! for Adults, 1:30 p.m., Mullis Community Senior Center lounge. Join other adults and listen to poetry, articles and essays, snippets and stories. Free.

Friday, June 13

– Poetry and Spoken Word, 7 p.m., San Juan Island Library. Guest poets John Sangster and Tom Odegard will present their work. An open mike period will follow. Free.

Saturday, June 14

– San Juan Island Horticultural Society Garden Tour, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Four locations on the island. Tickets available after June 11 at Browne’s Garden Center or Robin’s Nest for $10.

– Farmers Market, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Courthouse parking lot. Part of the Summer Kickoff sponsored by the San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce.

– Arts and crafts at the Farmers Market, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Courthouse parking lot. Nothing to do while the parents shop? How ’bout some creative fiddling around at the Island Rec tent? Second Saturdays only. Free.

– Dance Happy, 7 p.m., San Juan Community Theatre. A song and dance extravaganza featuring local dancers and musical artists. Tickets: $14 adults, $7 children and student reserved, with $5 student RUSH on available seats one hour before the show. Call 378-3210.

– Literary Salon, 7 p.m., San Juan Island Library. Drop in to visit with a group of folks who love books but don’t want to join a book club. Meet in front of the fireplace on each third Thursday of the month to discuss books.

– Botany of Mount Constitution, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Cascade Lake, Orcas Island. Dr. Thor Hanson explores site ecology and plant IDs at various elevations. Cost: $55; $40 for WSU Beach Watchers and Whale Museum naturalists. Registration required. Call 378-3646.

– Outdoor Storytime at the Farmers Market, 11:30 a.m., Courthouse parking lot. Visit the library at the Farmers Market to get books on cooking and gardening. Families will enjoy a break from the shopping with an outdoor story hour at 11:30.
