Town of Friday Harbor seeks artists’ proposals for Blair Avenue mural

Submitted by the Town of Friday Harbor

The Town of Friday Harbor is accepting proposals for artwork to be displayed on or against a 235-foot wall along Blair Avenue. Proposals will be accepted until April 30. All proposals will be considered with preference going to those from local artists. The Friday Harbor Arts Commission will review and select one or more proposals to recommend to the Town Council. The Council will make the final selection.

The FHAC’s review process will include the selection of up to three proposals by a panel composed of representatives of the Arts Commission, local art community, and Blair Avenue neighbors. The public will be invited to view the selections at a public forum. According to Commissioner Diane Martindale, public input is critical to the FHAC’s process. “We want to hear from all interested citizens, in particular those who live or work in that neighborhood,” said Martindale. “The Commission wants this to be an exciting and memorable process for the community.”

Interested parties should review the Request for Proposal (RFP) for the Blair Avenue Mural Project at www.fridayharbor.org.

The FHAC was formed in 2015 to advise the Town Council on the cultivation, selection, acquisition, and placement of public art.
