In the spirit of spring, and the biannual garden tour June 11, the Town of Friday Harbor has declared the week of June 2-8 as San Juan Island Garden Club Week. The May 16 proclamation states:

“Whereas, For those just learning, as well as those having years of experience, gardening furnishes a challenging and productive activity, while also promoting a healthy lifestyle; and

Whereas, Since its inception in 1944, members of the SJI Garden Club have graciously dedicated their time, talents & efforts within our community; and

Whereas, the SJI Garden Club is responsible for other undertakings such as being superintendents of the Flower Hall at the Fair, providing educational classes for the community & schools, organizing garden docents & guest speakers, and contributing to the Town hanging flower baskets; and

Whereas, the Town is appreciative of all the work its volunteers have done throughout the years to make our community a more beautiful & inviting place to live, work & visit;

Now,

Therefore, I, Farhad Ghatan, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of Friday Harbor, do hereby proclaim the week of June 2nd through June 8th as San Juan Island Garden Club Week

In the Town and wish them many more years of success. Thank you for continuing this tradition of helping with the annual hanging baskets and overseeing so many worthwhile community events.
