The magic of lavender

With vibrant fields of purple, San Juan Island’s very own lavender festival at Pelindaba Lavender Farm has been bringing tourists, locals and bees together every summer for the past 18 years.

The 2019 Lavender Festival took place over the sunny weekend, July 20 and 21, and offered free strolls in the lavender fields, lavender crafts, lavender-flavored treats, face painting and artists selling their artworks. Musical guests featured Kubatana Marimba, Katura Marimba and Erandolin Strings Celtic Band. For people wanting to learn about the history and uses of lavender, experts gave demonstrations throughout the day including lavender cultivation and essential oil distillation.

The lavender festival has become a staple of San Juan Island summertime. It is sponsored by Pelindaba Lavender Farm and the San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce.
