TEDx this Saturday

For the past 4 years, TedxSan Juan Island has been inspiring locals to change the world.

“We look for stories of innovation, adventure, breakthroughs and inspiration — ideas that topple stigma and advance thinking. Our 2019 Speakers honor the value of diversity of thought and the heritage of our best ideas. We asked them to share these the context of who we are, where we came from, and where we are headed,” the website reads.

The event takes place from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, at the San Juan Community Theatre. Tickets are $50, plus a $2 fee, and can be bought online at tedxsanjuanisland.ticketspice.com/tedxsanjuanisland-2019. Lunch is not included.

This year’s 2019 theme is “Origins” invites thought leaders, changemakers, and passionate experts to tackle today’s big issues by examining who we are, where we came from, and where we are headed. Speakers include Jonathan Field, a gifted teacher, author, presenter and horseman with a driving passion to share his message that a better understanding of the horse leads to greater self-awareness, Dr. Alexandra Solomon; an unapologetic love nerd. She is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at Northwestern University and a licensed clinical psychologist Dr. Stephne Tower; an arthroprosthetic surgeon featured in the documentary “Bleeding Edge”; Rahul Sood, CEO of Unikrn, a global Esports company built on cutting-edge blockchain and gaming technologies; and many more.

“TEDxSanJuanIsland strives to create a community where conversations about diverse ideas inspire others to make a difference. We want you to think big and be creative in applying insights from the conference to your daily life. Our goal is for all participants to leave the conference empowered to effect positive change in our community,” coordinators said.
