Soroptimist International of Friday Harbor presented $9,000 in educational awards to island women at their annual Notable Women’s Luncheon April 16, at Brickworks.
These awards provide financial support to women who are seeking to improve their lives through education.
Three awards were made:
Genevieve Gislason received the Educational Opportunity Award, which is for a San Juan County woman enrolled in an undergraduate or vocational degree program of study.
Soroptimist’s signature program, the Live Your Dream Award, is for a woman who is the primary wage earner in the household and enrolled in an undergraduate or vocational degree program of study. Katie Heeb received this award, accompanied by her son Henry.
The Fellowship Award is for a woman who is returning to college for post-graduate study leading to an advanced degree, masters or doctorate, to enhance their business or profession. Shannon Calverley received this award.
These awards are possible due to the generosity of community members and local businesses who support Soroptimist fundraising projects.
Soroptimist International of Friday Harbor is the local club of a worldwide service organization whose mission is improving the lives of women and girls.
