Shaw students give to animal shelter

Submitted by the Animal Protection Society Friday Harbor

Middle school students from the Shaw Island School have won first prize, for the second year in a row, in a statewide earthquake preparedness video contest called “The Great Shakeout.” Their prize? Two gift certificates from Target. But the student’s good citizenship did not stop at excellent earthquake preparedness, instead, they also elected to donate one of their gift certificates with a value of $200 to support the Animal Protection Society Friday Harbor’s Pet Food Pantry Program.

The APS-FH Pet Food Pantry is a community pet food bank to help keep pets in their homes by providing pet food for families in need. The Pet Food Pantry is located at the Treasure Hounds store at 365-C Spring St. in Friday Harbor and is open Wednesdays from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Both cat and dog food are available. The gift certificates will provide food for 10 pets-in-need.

Congratulations to the Shaw Island Middle School students for their outstanding academic achievement and community service.
