San Juan Island Opening Day Parade and community Mother’s Day Brunch

Submitted by Glen Margolis.

The San Juan Island Opening Day Boat Parade and Mother’s Day Brunch is finally happening on Sunday May 8. Both the parade and the Mother’s Day Brunch are open to the entire community. Ann Einboden is the Grand Marshall for this year’s parade.

This year’s theme is “Back to the Future” and we see the event as an opportunity to come together as a community as in day’s past. We are doing special outreach this year to the many public and private organizations that work to support and preserve the special character of our island community.

The Brunch will be held at the San Juan Island Yacht Club club house just above the Friday Harbor Marina from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A festive event is planned to celebrate Mother’s Day. Ticket’s can be purchased online at the SJIYC.com website for $20. each. Human-powered, sailboats and motor boats of all sizes are welcome to join the boat parade. There is no cost – participants can register at SJIYC.com.

Vessels should gather at Shipyard Cove (Jensen’s) at around 2, the parade will start after the ferry departure at around 2:30 depending on the ferry.

The community looks forward to your participation in celebrating and coming together as a community for the start of a new season.
