Sample local flavors at Eat Island Grown

Submitted by San Juans Agricultural Guild

More than a dozen talented chefs and farmers will gather to share the finest island flavors at the second annual Eat Island Grown tasting event from noon-4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 28 at Brickworks in Friday Harbor during the Friday Harbor Film Festival.

Enjoy tastes from Aurora Farms, Cafe Demeter, Cakes by Felicitations, Duck Soup, Friday Harbor House, Girl Meets Dirt, Marmalade Mama, North Beach Mushrooms, Setsunai Noodle Bar, Snowberry Farm, Sunnyfield Farm, Ultimate Momos and Ursa Minor. Duck Soup’s Kari Koski will be serving seasonally-inspired cocktails, with San Juan Food Co-op serving soft drinks to complement your culinary adventures. Farmer-chef partnerships will be featured at each booth, highlighting local ingredients and the farms and producers from which they have been sourced.

A live music performance by Sasha Von Dassow will kick off the tasting and silent auction. While enjoying local fresh bites, attendees will have the opportunity to bid on an array of experiences and items from island businesses. Bid on an afternoon of fall apple picking, a spring lamb visit, fresh bread or a cord of wood from Oak Knoll Farm. Hungry for even more great local food? How about fresh eggs from Rainbow Chicken Ranch, lunch at Market Chef or a farm-to-table luncheon at Wild Berry Farm? Is a romantic summer weekend getaway at Heartwood more your speed, or do you want to grow your business with a brand and marketing consultation from Terra Cognita? This is just a sampling of what will be on offer, with the silent auction running for the duration of the tasting.

Proceeds from the event benefit the San Juan Island Agricultural Guild’s agricultural programming. Working to support island farmers and food systems, this year the agricultural guild launched two great new print resources for farmers and local food enthusiasts alike. The Savor the Flavors Farm to Market Map and San Juan County Food and Farm Guide connect more than 70 island farms, producers and restaurateurs with local food buyers. Copies can be found at the Chamber of Commerce on San Juan, Orcas and Lopez islands, and aboard Washington State Ferries.

There is no admission fee. Tickets for food start at $3. Come for a bite or stay for a meal on this island gourmet adventure. Brickworks is conveniently located within two blocks of the ferry.

This event is part of Savor the San Juans, a two-month fall celebration of food, art and culture in the San Juan Islands. Related events can be found at visitsanjuans.com/savor.
