Round Towners providing transportation for those in need

Submitted by Round Towners

The San Juan Island Lions club gifted the Round Towners $9,000 and a 2014 Nissan Leaf on May 7.

The Round Towners is the only public transit in this community year-round and provides ecologically green, nonprofit shuttle service. Call 360-298-6108 to make a donation or for a free ride in Friday Harbor any day.

Help continue this vital program with a donation to pay the driver for trips he provides to customers at no charge throughout the year. Every penny stays here to subsidize the driver’s wages; $300 will provide about a year’s rides for one needy person while $30 provides a weekly shuttle for a month.

After 18,000 trips during the past six years, our mission remains to provide free or affordable transportation to seniors, people with disability and the rural public. We exist through the generous support of local donors, United Way, San Juan Lions, Rotary Club, Peace Island, San Juan County and the San Juan Island Community Foundation.

If health concerns dictate that you not drive, or your car is out of service and distance to essential services such as doctors, therapists, pharmacy, grocery, senior center or classes or work is too far, just let us help at a price you can afford. On-island trips beyond the town limits can be arranged at added prices (typical rates) with advance scheduling.

Round Towners is a Washington State 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
