Former fire chief-turned-researcher Rick Galer visited The Journal office today with a copy of the April 12, 1910 Town Council minutes, with this related historical fact — no April Fool’s on this one:

“The matter of disposing of the garbage collected on clean-up day was brought up for discussion,” the minutes read. “The suggestion, which met with the approval of the council, was to dump all garbage on a scow and tow it out beyond Brown’s Island.”
