The San Juan Island Library, in partnership with the nonprofit organization San Juan Island Artists, is excited to announce the creation of a new local digital collection commemorating the 34th Annual Artists’ Studio Tour. This collection gathers an image of artwork from each of the 67 local artists who participated in the studio tour. The tour ran on June 7-8, and participants could visit 22 studios on San Juan Island.
The new collection can be viewed on the library’s Biblioboard page, or by using this direct link: library.biblioboard.com/collection/34AAST. Both the SJI Library and the San Juan Island Artists are excited to continue this partnership in future years.
This year’s Studio Tour was a popular event, with many people visiting the studios spread throughout the island. “The Studio Tour has always been one of my favorite weekends on San Juan, even prior to becoming a participant 4 years ago,” said Brittany Whitaker, executive officer of the SJIA. “This year was no exception – we’ve received such positive feedback from attendees and past participants alike! Many people enjoyed the new studios on the map this year, such as The Fellowshop & Friday Harbor Fabrication. We’re excited to keep this beloved island tradition going and look forward to growing the Studio Tour in the years to come.”
The library is excited to add this collection to its growing catalog of local art and culture. “It is a vivid example of how vibrant and creative our island is,” said Anthony Morris, assistant director of the SJI Library. “As we gather more examples of island art and writing into these collections, you get a sense for the breadth and depth of our local creative culture. Stay tuned for other projects that we’ll be able to announce later in the year!” To see the range of local digital collections the library has available, please visit: sjlib.org/creators-circle/.
