A fixture at San Juan Island National Historical Park for nearly 40 years, Jim Meredith is widely renowned for his volunteer efforts and as a longtime participant in the park’s living history program.

In honor of his service and longevity with the park, Meredith was named the National Historical Park’s “Volunteer of the Century” on Dec. 14.

As a civil-war era re-enactor, there’s little that Meredith doesn’t know about he British Royal Marines. In fact, the Royal Marines named him an honorary member of their corps back in 1998, along with longtime re-enactor colleague Fred Henley.

You can see Meredith and other re-enactors in action as part of the park’s living history program in the National Historical Park’s annual Encampment at English Camp, in late July.
