Island Lights Festival returns to Friday Harbor

Submitted by the San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce

The San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce’s upcoming Island Lights Festival is on Friday Dec. 1 in Friday Harbor.

They are partnering with Brickworks, the Whale Museum, Island Rec and the San Juan Islands Agricultural Guild for a fun filled evening for the whole family. Festivities will begin with holiday treats and crafts at the Whale Museum from 3-5 p.m. From the museum everyone will walk down to Memorial Park to continue in the rest of the festivities. There will be hot chocolate and cookies provided by the Riptide Café waiting for everyone to enjoy.

The Island Chordsman Plus, led by Angel Michaels, will be performing Christmas carols while everyone gathers in front of Memorial Park on Spring Street. Starting at 5:15 p.m. they will be joined by the Elementary School Choir, led by Steve Moore. Santa Claus will arrive for the annual tree lighting. After Santa has turned on the tree lights there will be more caroling and everyone is invited up to Brickworks to continue the holiday festivities. At Brickworks there will be pictures with Santa, taken by Mark Gardner, and arts and crafts for the family with Island Rec. The San Juan Islands Agricultural Guild will have local harvest soups and bread, mac and cheese, along with spiced local apple cider, all for sale.
