Island Hospital reveals new name

Island Hospital leadership announced a new name, logo and tagline to better encompass all the services they provide. Island Hospital is now Island Health.

“While the building that houses our Emergency Department, Acute Care Unit, Intensive Care Unit, Surgical Services and Birth Center will still be known as Island Hospital, we are thrilled to have a refreshed logo and name that accurately reflects all that we do, incorporating our entire service line,” said Island Health CEO Elise Cutter, MBA.

After extensive research and interviews with current and past patients, community members, medical staff, Commissioners, and employees, it became evident that it was time to refresh the name and the brand to be more relevant and reflective of the organization’s current service offering. The process included vetting several brand promises and names, as well as researching the history of our hospital district. The final brand had to be: unique to the organization, differentiating from other healthcare entities and reflective of where the organization is headed. “Courageous” is the selected brand position and Care Courageously™ is the tagline that will bring the new brand position to life.

Additionally, the hospital’s signs have become weathered and are in need of updating. Pairing the refresh to the name and logo with the signage project made sense financially.

Island Health launched a new website: www.islandhealth.org, and over the next several months will roll out new signage, statements and materials. Island Health leadership is also reflecting on and refining the mission, vision and values to better define how they care for patients and for one another, with a focus on enhanced access to care and infrastructure investments in the organization.

“As we work to advance healthcare in our region we hope you’ll join us in embracing our new identity and celebrate our staff who deliver Courageous Care every day,” said Cutter.
