Island Artisans’ Holiday Market returns

Submitted by Island Artisans

The Island Artisans’ Holiday Market is Friday, Nov. 24, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are over 60 vendors, as well as food from Cynthia’s, Of Course. Children can take selfies with Santa on Friday, 1 p.m to 4 p.m.

This year’s raffle offers seven prizes. Participants don’t have to be present to win. The drawing is on Saturday at 4 p.m.

This is a juried show and sale. The top local artists are invited to sell art and gifts, locally made, by artists and craftsmen from San Juan County only. Attendance has increased over the years and about 500 or more people attend each day. Many who attend do not realize this is a scholarship fundraiser. The more you spend the more the nonprofit can award to high school senior artists. Ten percent of purchases at the markets goes directly to the group’s scholarship fund. Last spring, $13,000 in scholarships were awarded. Students graduating from any accredited school in San Juan County may apply. Three parts of the application include submitting artwork and one is an essay. Applications are at Friday Harbor, Orcas and Lopez high schools and the San Juan Library. Island Artisans, a scholarship fundraising board is one of the oldest nonprofits in the county.
