Gearing up for the county fair

Spring has sprung, flowers are blooming, gardens are growing, the sun is shining and birds are chirping! This year’s fair theme, A Wheel in Time: Cultivating Roots, reminds us of the cyclical nature of the seasons and the cycles of life. Now is the perfect time to start planning your fair entry to ensure you are blue-ribbon ready for entry day on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Important deadlines to note — so mark your calendars. If you would like to submit your writing to the Island Writers Fair Department, the deadline for submissions is July 19. Submissions can be emailed to Review the premium book for rules and submission requirements.

If you are bringing an animal to the fair as an open class exhibitor, be sure to contact your department superintendent by Aug. 1 to ensure space availability. If you are planning to enter your horse and ride at the fair as an open class participant, you are also required to have your forms and payment into the Fair Administrative Office by Aug. 1.
