The Friday Harbor Power Squadron has two upcoming events that are free and open to the public.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on May 4 and 5, there will be a boat simulator virtual trainer at the Port of Friday Harbor office, located underneath the yacht club. Participants can practice boat handling in virtual reality, without the dangers of getting wet or hitting anything.

From 10 a.m. to noon, on May 19, there will be a flare shoot and fire extinguisher training at Jackson Beach. Attendees will learn how to signal for help, as well as practice setting off flares and using fire extinguishers. Participants should bring their own expired flares or can use the ones provided at the training. The local fire department will assist in this training as well.
