Cans, cans and more cans filled the office at Friday Harbor Elementary School, Jan. 11.

The school’s Food Drive (inclusive of both people and pet food) wrapped up with all 830 cans bagged, grabbed and shoved into a truck heading for the Friday Harbor Food Bank.

The drive was contributed to by all of the children but organized by the school’s Student Council. Carly Woodward, the Student Council president, said that although the drive did not meet its target of 2,010 items, she was very pleased with the results. Although not set in stone, it is the council’s habit to run about two community service projects a year: one locally based, like the food drive, and one international. Carly says that now the food drive is over, the student body will concentrate on raising money for an international aid group, yet to be selected.

With the truck loaded to bursting with the bags of food, Principal Gary Pflueger and volunteer Bob Carroll drove to the Food Bank to make the very sizable donation.
