FHHS art students win again!

Submitted by the San Juan Island School District.

Friday Harbor High School art students Larissa Mauldin and Elian Bayas both won at the NWESD Regional High School Art Show and will advance to the State art competition. Mauldin’s ceramic sculpture “Broken”, and Baya’s drawing “Crowed Waters” were chosen out of 260 entries.

Larissa and Elian were selected to represent the Northwest ESD 189 region covering five different counties (approximately 16% of Washington State’s K-12 public school students). These regional winners move forward to compete against the state’s other eight district’s regional finalists. State winners receive a monetary award, and their work becomes part of the state’s permanent collection. The State show takes place on May 30 at Benaroya Hall in Seattle.

Friday Harbor High School Art Instructor Andrew Anderson said “This is a tremendous accomplishment to be chosen. Larissa and Elian are both talented and deserving of recognition. They have worked extremely hard and spent countless hours honing their skills. I’m proud of them.”
