Farm parade returns to San Juan Island, Oct. 6

Submitted by the San Juan Island Grange

The eighth annual Friday Harbor Fall Farm Parade will be Saturday, Oct. 6. The parade will stage from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the San Juan County Fairgrounds, and starts on Argyle Avenue at 2:30 p.m., heading down Spring Street turning onto First Street and finally turning onto Court Street to finish near the grange hall.

The phrase “farm parade” is a loose term, encouraging participation from gardeners, beekeepers, backyard poultry enthusiasts, orchardists, home cooks and any other person who wants to show support for a resilient community on the island. The result is an eclectic mix of tractors and farm trucks, horses and goats, marchers with banners and signs.

Gather along Argyle Avenue and Spring Street at 2:30 p.m. to watch the parade. Or show up at the fairgrounds before 2:30 p.m. with your walking shoes, horse, truck, tractor or wheelbarrow to get in the parade. Either way, it’ll be a lot of fun. As with all grange public programs, it is free and open to all.
