Thank you for native art show | Letters

I was honored and fortunate to attend as a guest the opening of the exhibition of NW Coast Native Art at the San Juan Islands Museum of Art.

I was involved in the trade of artifacts and collectibles in Seattle in the 1970s and 80s, and my special interest was in Native American art, especially the art of the Pacific Northwest. I have seen hundreds of fine examples that we purchased and sold, attended auctions or read catalogs, read extensively, photographed collections, and visited most of the world’s museums with the best exhibitions of Native American artifacts.

I was thrilled and impressed immensely with the exhibition at the SJIMA. The installation is of the highest level and the collection is powerful and is an example of the Indigenous Art of the Northwest Coast at a sublime level.

I would like to congratulate all those who made this exhibition possible and hope the collection remains available for viewing so that many visitors can enjoy the outstanding collection in the future.

I believe it would be a fine asset to the community and an enriching attraction for visitors to San Juan Island.
