SHIBA volunteers express gratitude | Letter

The SHIBA volunteers on San Juan Island would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Joyce L. Sobel Family Resource Center and the Friday Harbor Presbyterian Church for their generous offer of space for our volunteers to use to counsel Medicare clients.

The Family Resource Center provides space for our volunteers to use for counseling clients throughout the year and the Presbyterian Church made space available for our highly successful Open Enrollment walk-in enrollment event. We love being a part of our close-knit community.

During this year’s Open Enrollment, we were able to help more than 250 people on San Juan Island select the best Medicare insurance options to meet their needs. We could not have done this without the generous offers of space by the Church and the Family Resource Center and the help of our sponsor, the Inter-Island Healthcare Foundation.

SHIBA (Statewide Health Insurance Beneficiary Advisors) is a service of the Washington state Office of the Insurance Commissioner. Our volunteers provide free, confidential assistance to Medicare beneficiaries. We help enrollees with choosing the best plans during the Open Enrollment Period (October 15 to December 7 each year), and with a variety of other medical insurance related questions for all ages during the rest of the year.

See you next year,

Your San Juan Island SHIBA volunteers, Pat Van Skyhawk, Patti Bjarnason, Holly Henry, and Sue Kollet.
