Not the kind of ‘Pennywatching’ to brag about

I was there at Carrie Lacher's presentation to a church pastoral council meeting in 2003. She told us our finances were fine. At the next meeting (under new leadership) she reported that our finances were in terrible shape and we didn’t have enough to meet immediate payroll obligations. It was quite a shock to us all. This is not the kind of “Pennywatching” to brag about.

On her blogspot, Carrie Lacher, who is running for mayor of Friday Harbor, has a Sept. 18 article titled “Pennywatch.” She lists all of her financial experience, including bookkeeping for her own clothing store and for the Catholic Church.

She coyly asks, “Do I see a theme here?” She goes on to say her experience is good news for Friday Harbor:

“It’s the Mayor who takes the first crack at the town budget. … I’m comfortable in the world of numbers and good at it too. I’ll make sure to keep bringing those bookkeeping and accounting skills to the Council table to help plan and ensure a fiscally sound future for all of us.”

I seem to remember that Carrie Lacher’s clothing store was a financial failure. As for her next employer, I can only say that the Catholic Church is a very forgiving institution.
