Lessons from Hurricane Harvey | Letters

In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, there are lessons for us islanders. While a hurricane is unlikely, there are other disasters, both manmade and natural, that may/will someday impact our islands.

All we need is any event that knocks out our ferry landing and we could be partially isolated for days or weeks. Do you have fresh water, food, propane, gasoline, firewood, meds and warm clothing? Maybe it’s time to consider a generator? Our hearts and prayers go out to the people of Houston. Let’s learn from mistakes made there so we don’t repeat them.
