My husband and I (Don and Jocie DeVries) both graduated from Friday Harbor High School. Don’s class was 1960 and mine was 1963. We were high school sweethearts, and have been married 60 years. Kids of the 1960’s often get bad press as being an anti-establishment era but do you realize how many of the couples that graduated during those years have been married over 50 years now? For school classes that were very small (like maybe 18 kids) the percentages that have reached that milestone is amazing. The close kit culture of Friday Harbor during those years produced kids that figured out how to keep a promise. I am a published author and have some ideas on questions that could be developed for one of your reporters that could make a great series for your newspaper.
