    When Vic’s Drive-In opened 50 years ago June 28, it resembled a drive-in more than it does now.
    It was a smaller version of “American Graffiti’s” Mel’s, a mom-and-pop shop where you could pull up, place your order, and enjoy your meal in the comfort of your car — one of America’s favorite eating venues in the Eisenhower era.
    There was just the kitchen then, and an order window. There was no indoor seating, just tables along the side and in back. Cars parked diagonally along Second Street then.

    To commemorate the 10th year of Pet Sitters International’s “Take Your Dog to Work Day,” local businesses are being encouraged to join forces with animal shelters and professional pet sitters to celebrate the great companionship our canine pals offer.

    The owners of the RE/MAX San Juan Island franchise will buy Friday Harbor Realty and the combined offices will become Island Group Sotheby’s International Real Estate, effective July 1.
    Paul LeBaron, co-owner of Island Group, which owns the RE/MAX franchise, said Friday all employees of the merged companies will be located in what is now the Friday Harbor House building.

    The owners of RE/MAX San Juan Island will buy Friday Harbor Realty and the combined offices will become Island Group Sotheby’s International Real Estate, effective July 1. Paul LeBaron, co-owner of RE/MAX, said today all employees of the merged companies will be located in what is now the Friday Harbor House building. LeBaron said he and his RE/MAX partners — Sybil Mager, Travis Mager and Chris Spaulding — are not buying the Friday Harbor Realty building.
