More updates and improvements are planned for SanJuanJournal.com.

The Web site, which debuted Oct. 2, 1998, is the oldest online news site on the islands. A redesign was launched April 30 that gave the site an updated look as well as enhanced services.

SanJuanJournal.com is updated daily. In addition, most content from the Wednesday Journal of the San Juan Islands is uploaded onto the site.

The site features comics, horoscopes, up-to-the-minute Lottery numbers and weather. Readers also have the option to read the most read stories in the region and the most read stories in Washington.

“We want islanders to count on SanJuanJournal.com for local community news and features as well as for breaking news,” Publisher Elyse Van den Bosch said. “This redesign and additional planned changes will provide even more access to news and information never provided before on our site.”

In the coming months, the site will offer blogging opportunities, photo galleries and a section to allow readers to comment on stories.

“We’re very excited about the enhanced opportunities SanJuanJournal.com is providing and will provide in the near future,” said Richard Walker, editor of The Journal and SanJuanJournal.com. “We can do so much more with our site now than ever before. Our primary concern is to provide islanders with access to more community news and information they need to know.”
