Elements Hotel & Spa on Spring Street is changing its name.
It is now Earthbox Motel & Spa. New signage is to come. The Web site is already being changed.
Elements, which was formerly the Inns at Friday Harbor until its purchase by Adam and Laura Saccio, faced a challenge from Westin Hotels, which is unveiling a hotel group with the Elements name.
Saccio said the word “motel” more accurately describes the buildings — connected rooms whose doors face the outside or common areas. But it understates the resort-like amenities the Saccios have added or further developed at the former motor inn: stylishly renovated rooms, a full-service spa, heated indoor pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and fitness center, beach cruiser bikes and high-speed wireless.
“We wanted to make sure we underpromise and overdeliver,” she said.
The Saccios also own Bird Rock Hotel, formerly known as Friday’s Historic Inn, on First and West streets.
