With the expiration of her lease and with her daughter’s graduation from high school, Laura Westmiller has moved her Classic Design, Inc., to a studio in the Northwest area of the island near her home.
“My Spring Street location has been wonderful,” Westmiller said. “But I have found I am spending more time in my clients’ homes and businesses than in the store location. I would like to continue with that kind of personalized service and offer savings to my clients as I am no longer paying for rental space.”

Island Bodywork opens in Tech Center
Sheryl Bauer, who opened Island Bodywork LLC at the Technology Center on Mullis Street last week, was inspired to pursue her career in 1992 after a vehicle collision left her with chronic pain and tension in her neck and shoulders.
She was working as an office manager, but was so inspired by her recovery after a series of Hellerwork treatments (no pain, increased energy, improved posture) that she knew she wanted to do that work.
She completed Hellerwork training in 1995 from Hellerwork International and started her practice on Vashon Island from 1994-99 and on San Juan from 1999 to present. She worked from her home but is more accessible being in town.
“Hellerwork is a unique and powerful combination of deep tissue bodywork, movement education and dialogue,” Bauer said. “During the 11-section series, the structural balance of your body is realized through the systematic release and reorganization of muscle and connective tissue using a variety of deep-tissue bodywork techniques.’
Hellerwork alignment dissipates pain and tension and restores the body’s natural balance from the inside out.
Bauer is studying abdominal massage to help with pre- and post-op abdominal surgeries, as well as reproductive and digestive issues. She also has trained extensively in cranialsacral therapy, a gentle approach to access deep stored tension.

Create a good experience for your customers

All of these questions and more will be answered in an interactive workshop, “Exceeding Customer Expectations,” brought to you through the cooperative efforts of the San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce, the Northwest Workforce Development Council and the San Juan County Economic Development Council.
The workshop is May 22, 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Orcas Conference Room at Elements Hotel & Spa on Spring Street. The instructor will be Minnie Knych.

Soroptimists move to Vinny’s Restaurant
Effective today, the regular noon meetings of Soroptimist International of Friday Harbor will be held in Vinny’s Restaurant, 165 West St., Friday Harbor.
The private lunch will continue to be catered by Vinny’s and will cost $9 per person. Members and their guests are welcome.
