More than 60 San Juan Islanders came out for the San Juan County League of Women Voters Candidate Forum, Thursday, Oct. 6, at the Grange in Friday Harbor, moderated by Steve Bowman. The forum consisted of local council candidates, state senate candidates, as well as Representative District 2 candidates Rick Larsen and Marc Hennemann.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee had a whirlwind visit to the San Juan Islands over Labor Day weekend. He visited John O. Linde Community Park and Mt. Grant where he was greeted by orca activists. Joan Byrne was a member of the first combined Town and District Structural Firefighter recruit class held in 2001. She was an active firefighter for ten years until she developed arthritis in her hands and felt that she was a safety hazard to her fellow fighters. So, she came out of the “hot zone” and became a member of the logistics team for San Juan Island Fire and Rescue.
