The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Jan. 28
• A San Juan deputy took a report of a cold theft. Items were taken within the prior four months. No suspect information was available, and a report was generated.
• Orcas Island deputies apprehended a wanted fugitive near the Deer Harbor area. The deputies were able to place the wanted fugitive in custody without incident. Subsequently, the fugitive was booked into the San Juan County Jail.
Jan. 29
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a drug incident near Eastsound. The deputy contacted the reporting party, who found a glass pipe containing suspected methamphetamine. If this is your lost property, contact the Sheriff’s Office for help or resources.
• Lopez Island deputies were dispatched to an order violation. An investigation was conducted, and an individual was transported to Friday Harbor. The incident was documented.
• A deputy on San Juan Island tagged a vehicle as abandoned. The vehicle was not moved, and on Feb. 4, the deputy followed up, and Island Towing impounded the vehicle.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a found property incident in Eastsound. The deputy retrieved an insulin pump from the reporting party and visited local medical facilities, attempting to locate the owner of the device. The insulin pump was delivered to the Sheriff’s Office property room.
• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Fisherman Bay Road and Hummel Lake Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for expired registration over two months and display of non-matching license plates. Additional warnings were issued.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to an abandoned vehicle incident at the Orcas Island Ferry Park and Ride. Two vehicles were identified as abandoned, and a 72-hour notice was issued. Please be mindful of the three- and seven-day parking area, which is being enforced at the Ferry Park and Ride.
• A local resident turned in found property — a baby stroller — to the Sheriff’s Office. It was checked into evidence.
Jan. 30
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a death investigation. The investigation revealed no suspicious activity.
• A Lopez deputy completed a courtesy report regarding possible property damage to a vehicle.
• San Juan Island deputies were contacted to conduct a death investigation of a local resident. Upon investigation, it was apparent that the death was from natural causes.
• Deputies on Orcas Island responded to a report of trespassing on a local residence. Deputies contacted the reporting party and obtained video.
• A deputy took a report of an unwanted person on their property. The reporting party was contacted and signed a trespass warning letter for the unwanted person. The incident was documented.
• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a report of fraud. An investigation is underway.
• San Juan Island deputies responded to a local establishment for a report of an unwanted person. The person was acting inappropriately and refusing to leave per the establishment, and they wanted the person to be trespassed indefinitely. The deputies issued a trespass warning letter.
• San Juan Island deputies responded to a report of domestic violence. After investigating, it was determined that an assault occurred. The suspect was arrested for assault in the fourth degree – domestic violence.
Jan. 31
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 49 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Orcas Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.
• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Fisherman Bay Road and Weeks Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speeding 41 mph in a posted 25 mph zone.
Feb. 1
• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop for speeding in Moran State Park. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding, 44 mph in a 25 mph zone.
• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Center Road and Kielhaven Lane. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for no insurance. Additional warnings were given.
• A deputy on Orcas Island stopped a vehicle on Orcas Road for speeding. The driver was issued an infraction for speeding 50 mph in a posted 35 mph zone.
Feb. 2
• A deputy on Orcas was assigned a fraud complaint. A local resident’s email address was hacked. The victim took steps to safeguard their electronic devices.
• A deputy on Orcas conducted a welfare check. The involved person was apparently not home.
• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a possible order violation. A report was taken.
• A deputy on Orcas received a complaint of possible harassment. The complaint was civil in nature.
• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Fisherman Bay Road and Erisman Drive. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speeding 39 mph in a posted 25 mph zone.
• San Juan Island deputies received a traffic hazard call. An unattended truck had rolled out of its parking place and into some bollards near the marina. It was winched back into its spot by a local towing company.
• A deputy responded to a report of a burglary. Another deputy was there, in the process of fingerprinting various surfaces in the residence.
Feb. 3
• A San Juan Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for excessive speed. A warning was given for the speed, along with not updating her driver’s license within 10 days of moving and not having her driver’s license on her person. However, an infraction was issued for expired registration.
• Lopez Island deputies were dispatched to a domestic violence call. The incident was documented.
