Our beloved Fred W. Day of Friday Harbor, WA passed away on January 4, 2026.
Fred was a youth baseball and football star, mathematician, engineer, software architect, loving husband of Lori, boater who loved navigating rapids heading to the Broughton Islands, BC, social gatherer of friends and neighbors, poet and faithful believer that the Lord was with him.
His many lives included 30 years with Bell Labs/ATT in New Jersey and Colorado, participating in the creation of technologies that the world relies on, another 30 year career as a software solutions consultant in Portland and Kirland, commuting via Kenmore Air from his home in Friday Harbor and traveling throughout the world.
Fred is survived by his son Fred K. Day, New Jersey; his daughter Laura Hamway and grandson Michael Hamway, Virginia; his brother James Day, New Jersey; brother Robert Day, Florida; and sister Janice Christensen, Nevada. His loving wife of 42 years, Laverne (Bernie) Day passed away in 2016. His marriage to Lori Day for eight years was filled with love and care.
Fred expressed often his heartfelt appreciation for the constant love he felt from all those who filled his world in Friday Harbor. He battled health issues the last three years but filled it with adventures. He also experienced what love at home and in the community can do.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Friday Harbor House Conference Center on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m.
