Ever wonder how Terry Ogle’s carvings are made? Or how David Halpern makes the Fish Net Sheep at the far end of the San Juan Island Sculpture Park? Join the fun July 1 from 2-4 p.m. as island sculptors demonstrate their trade at the San Juan Island Sculpture Park. Watch Keith Keyser, known for his rustic but elegant furniture, select just the right piece for an armrest. Ask Terry Ogle if the wood tells him what to carve or if he tells the wood what he sees there. Watch David Halpern as he turns a garbage can full of fishnet into a sheep that doubles as a footstool. Adding to the fun, artist Maria Michaelson of Alchemy Arts will have her interactive phone booth on site for those how missed it at the Pride Fair.
In addition to the artists at work, visitors are welcome to enjoy the 20 acres of sculptures made by both local and nationally recognized artists.
We’ll have sculpture bingo games for kids that puts an extra dose of fun into exploring the park. Visitors will be welcome to add their name to a free raffle that will determine a home for the Fish Net Sheep David Halpern creates at the event.
Demo Day is part of the Sculpture Park’s education program run by David Halpern and Kristen Arnim. Every Saturday in summer from 2-4 p.m., visitors are invited to participate in creating a group sculpture or project. Always free, always fun. All ages welcome.
While donations to the Sculpture Park as always appreciated, admission is always free.
