Friday Harbor High School competed against athletes from 38 different schools in Washington State’s 2B League during the 2023 WIAA 1B-2B-1A Track and Field State Championships May 25-27. Yakima, Washingtons Zaepfel Stadium was full with well over a hundred schools in attendance.

Led by coaches Shannon Plummer and Willie Blackmon, the Friday Harbor Wolverines Girl’s 4 x 100-meter relay team took 2nd Place in State! The relay runners McKenna Clark (11), Mia Blackmon (12), Stella Carli (9), Ari Tucker-Belt (12) came in with a time of 52.50.

Senior Zachary Place took 4th Place in the Boy’s Triple achieving a jump distance of 41’ 10 1/2”.

The Girls’ 4 x 200-meter relay team took 6th place. The relay runners McKenna Clark (11), Georgia Vanderyacht (9), Mia Blackmon (12), Ari Tucker Belt (12) came in with a time of 1:53.92.

Lewis Haws received first-place medals in the boys’ javelin ambulatory as well as the shot put and discus and second place in the 100-meter dash ambulatory.

Two other student-athletes also went to state to represent the Wolverines; Senior Gleb Caireac competed in the Boys’ 400 meters and freshman Jasper Markins Competed in the girls’ triple jump.
