Wolverines girls soccer fought hard against Bear Creek

According to coach Kevin Cullen, the Wolverines girl’s soccer team knew Saturday would be a tough match going in.

“Bear Creek has some talented players. Unfortunately, we came out a little flat and had trouble keeping possession of the ball,” Cullen said. “Our touch was a little off, but even so we still had some strong defensive stands and some incredible scoring opportunities.”

Bear Creek was able to score three points at the beginning of the game, but the Wolverines fought hard. “Overall, there were many things I liked about the match, definitely things we can build from,” Cullen said. Bear Creek scored three more going into the second half of the game. Still, the Wolverines did not give up.

“Just because you don’t win doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good game,” attendee Cari Perkins said. Her daughter graduated from Friday Harbor but Perkins continues to cheer on the team.

Right after that comment, the Wolverines scored their first goal of the game and scored one more just seconds before the game ended.

The final score was 2-7. Cullen said the team is looking forward to their next game at Coupeville on Tuesday, Oct. 4. The next home game takes place Oct. 24. at 4:30 p.m. on the Linde Community Fields.
