It’s Saturday night and they’re both dressed to kill.

She, as her favorite fantasy figure and he, well, he’s decked out like a wizard and carries a wand.

In the afterglow of La Danse De La Mer’s witty, dark and lushly romantic production of Prince of the Rain Realm, a contemporary ballet set to music as varied as Pink Floyd and Mozart and bursting with all the brilliance, passion and suspense of any adult fairy tale, these two bedazzled show-goers say to themselves: “What next?”Rain Realm

Answer? Join the ballet’s cast, crew and dancers for a post-performance part at Tops’l Restaurant.

It’s the perfect way to cap off the evening, Danse De La Mer director and choreographer Lina Downes says.

“We are inviting the audience to dress up, in costume if you like, enjoy our exciting and beautiful ‘Prince’ and then meet the dancers after the show at Tops’l, who will stay open especially for us,” Downes says. “This is our premier and it’s a one-night only event so I want this ballet to be a big party.”

The “Dark Lord” of the ballet is danced by contemporary ballet/cabaret dancer Sylvain Boulet, world renowned for his fantastic work en pointe. His fraternal twin brother, the athletic and handsome Danny Boulet, stars as the good “Prince.”

“Since the Boulet brothers look nothing alike and are very different dancers, they are perfect as foes,” Downes says. “Danny Boulet is an incredible partner for our heroine, danced by Caitlin Ross. Their lift choreography is often death defying.”

C RossAs for costumes for the audience, Downes suggests something that embodies a favorite fairly tale character or as simple as a tiara. Inspired by Grimm’s fairy tales, Prince of the Rain Realm features romance, the primordial struggle of good versus evil and a phantasmagorical fight scene.
