Trailing by a point and with no time left on the clock, back-to-back free-throw attempts by Emily Guard rattled the rim but fell to the floor, and with them went the Wolverines chance of a hard-fought upset over league-leading Darrington, the defending Northwest 1A/2B League champ, in a 42-41 heartbreaker, Saturday, at home.

The Wolverines (2-3) led by one point at the half and tallied the first eight points of the third period to gain a 26-17 advantage.

But the Loggers rallied, tying the score at 37-37 late in the final period, and went up by a single point, at 42-41, when Amy Miles buried a three-point shot with one minute left in regulation.

Friday Harbor’s Tabatha Keane scored a game-high 16 points.
