Wolverines upend La Conner with second-half shutout | Football

With a 55-yard scoring drive and 2-point safety to start the second half, the Wolverines erased a 5-point deficit, stole back the momentum and muscled their way into the driver’s seat of the Northwest 2B /1B League title chase in a 39-21 victory at home, Sept. 26, over La Conner.

With a 55-yard scoring drive and 2-point safety to start the second half, the Wolverines erased a 5-point deficit, stole back the momentum and muscled their way into the driver’s seat of the Northwest 2B /1B League title chase in a 39-21 victory at home, Sept. 26, over La Conner.

Willie Blackmon dashed for two TD after the break and the Wolverines (3-1) sealed the win early in the final period on a 45-yard touchdown toss from Peter Holt to Bill Revercomb.

The tide turned on the defensive side of the ball, as the Wolverines held La Conner scoreless after the break, after giving up 21 points in the second period.

“The second half was a test of our character,” Coach Richard Ledford said. “I can’t say enough about how well these young men played.”

The Wolverines are on the road at Division 2A Bellingham, Friday Oct. 3; kick off is 5:30 p.m. The face Orcas Island on the road (game-time TBD) for the second game of a two-game season series against the Vikings, Saturday, Oct. 11.

Friday Harbor will have an opportunity to avenge its early season loss at Concrete (20-14) when the Lions come to town Friday, Oct. 17; kick off is 6:30 p.m.
