The Friday Harbor boys basketball team notched its highest scoring-output of the season with a runaway 72-20 victory at home, Thursday, over Mount Vernon Christian in its league opener.

A total of nine Wolverines put points on the board as Friday Harbor dominated the Hurricanes, running roughshod over an overmatched Mount Vernon Christian squad (4-6) from the opening tip off. Friday Harbor cashed in on a flurry of early steals and uncontested layups, jumping out to a 24-4 after the opening quarter, and had the contest firmly in control by the break, sporting a 42-12 advantage at the half.

Senior Donald Galt tallied a game-high 18 points, C.J. Woods tossed in 13, senior Collin Williamson added 12 and Brandon Allen contributed nine to the team total. Senior Kurtis Noste scored eight points to lead the Hurricanes.

With the win, the Wolverines improved to 7-4 on the season and 1-0 in league. They split a pair on the road at the Yakima Sundome jamboree the previous weekend, falling 58-56 to Division 1A La Salle on a buzzer-beater at the regulation, and rebounding the following day to shutdown an up-tempo Steilacoom squad and hand the Sentinels a 43-29 defeat.

“They’re a run-and-gun kind of team but we were able to shut them down in the half-court,” Williamson said of the Sentinels. “It was a great way to end the tournament.”
