The good news is that after back-to-back losses to Auburn Adventist the Wolverines won’t have to play the Falcons, yet again, to keep their playoff run alive.

The bad news is they’ll have to best an ‘ole familiar foe that, on paper, is a mirror-image of themselves and to whom they lost when the two last met.

On the heels of a 70-28 blowout of league-rival Concrete, Thursday, the Wolverines (17-5) will square off against the La Conner Braves (18-4) in a post-season “elimination game” Saturday, at Sedro Woolley High School; tip off is 3 p.m.

The Falcons dealt the Braves a 52-37 defeat in the 2B District playoffs championship game, Thursday, at Sedro Woolley, to clinch a berth in the 2B regional tournament and set up the “do-or-die” match up between Friday Harbor and La Conner, which snatched a share of the Northwest 2B/1B League title by handing Friday Harbor its only loss in league play with a with a 46-43 victory Feb. 6 at La Conner.

The league rivals split their two-game regular season series and each finished 13-1 in league.

The winner of Saturday’s showdown will advance to the regional 2B tournament, Feb. 27-28, with a shot at securing a berth in the 2B state tournament. The loser will be eliminated from post-season contention.
