C.J. Woods scored 13 of his game-high 18 points in the opening period and the Wolverines raced out to an early lead to topple an undersized and overmatched Darrington squad by a high-flying score of 66-21, Saturday, in Turnbull Gym.

Capitalizing on size, speed and a tenacious full-court press, the Wolverines lit up the scoreboard with 27 first-period points, held Darrington to just eight, and had an near-insurmountable 47-10 advantage in tow at the half.

Getting back on track against the winless Loggers (0-4) was the kind of “confidence builder” the Wolverines needed in the wake of a 68-47 loss on the road three days earlier at Bear Creek, Woods said.

“They’re probably the best team we’ve played so far, but we just weren’t prepared for how up-tempo and in-your-face they play,” he said of the Grizzlies. “Coach Turnbull said we’ve got to ready from the very beginning and to come out with a lot of pressure. We did that today.”

With the win over Darrington, Friday Harbor notched in first win in Northwest 1A/2B League play and evened its record at 2-2 overall.

Dylan DeMaris scored 13 and Otis Cooper-West added 11 in the victory over Darrington.
