The Friday Harbor girls tennis team bounced back from a narrow 3-2 loss in its season opener to make a strong showing at the Granite Falls Invitational, Saturday, March 22.
Freshman Yasmin Sarah, playing in the No. 2 singles slot, swept all three of opponents she faced in the four-school round-robin tournament, highlighted by a 8-7 pro-set victory against Vashon that Yasmin sealed with a 13-11 win in the pivotal tie-breaker.
Senior Roxanne Bormann prevailed 4-6 6-4 (10-2) over her No. 1 singles counterpart from Granite Falls before falling to the competition from Vashon and Sammamish.
In doubles play, Friday Harbor’s No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams, Maddy Marinkovich and Kendall Calvert, and Sophie Dillery and Summer Fox, respectively, each swept all three opponents they face. Fox and Dillery prevail 12-10 in a tie-breaker to net a 4-6 6-2 win over Sammamish. The No. 1 doubles team, Meagan Anderson and Ashton Timmons, fell in all three of its matches.
The Wolverines, who fell 4-1 to perennial Division 2A powerhouse Lynden Monday, will be home Wednesday, April 2, to host South Whidbey; match time is 4 p.m.
