Wolverines basketball teams fall to the Pioneers

The Friday Harbor Wolverines boys basketball team lost to the Nooksack Valley Pioneers on Saturday, Dec. 8 on San Juan Island.

The game was exciting to watch as the teams were neck and neck throughout the first half at 17-17.

“We were tied up at halftime, but we had a rough third quarter,” coach Rod Turnbull said.

Unfortunately, for the Wolverines the Pioneers came back strong after the halftime break by setting up multiple shots and pushing the score further ahead of the Wolverines. Friday Harbor used their height to their advantage, blocking several attempts by Nooksack Valley, but as the buzzer rang ending the game, the score was 50-46.

The next home game will be 6 p.m. on Dec. 21 against Orcas.

The lady Wolverines basketball team fought hard against the Nooksack Valley Pioneers, but by halftime they had fallen behind 22-33. During the second half of the game, the Wolverines began closing the gap, but the Pioneers surged ahead with multiple shots making the final score 62-38.

The next home game will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 21 against Orcas.
