Wolverines baseball on its way to state

The Friday Harbor Wolverines baseball team won Crosspoint 9-0 Thursday, May 9.

“The guys really came to play against Crosspoint,” coach Rich Warin said. “Good defense, good pitching and some clutch hitting.”

Senior Marshal Clark took the mound to pitch the shutout game. Clark also had two hits with a triple and two runs batted in. Junior Nick Herko had two hits, a double and two RBIs. Junior Gavin Flaum added two hits and two RBIs to his statistics, and senior Yadir Plaza also had two hits and two RBIs.

Saturday, May 11, the Wolverines faced off against Concrete for the district championship, winning the game 10-0, and taking the district title. Plaza was on the mound this game, and according to Warin, only gave up three hits and had six strikeouts. Senior Lucas Chevalier had two hits, a double and two RBIs. Flaum gained two more RBIs, while Mason added two more doubles and two more RBIs to his statistics.

“The guys played great defense behind Plaza turning a couple of double plays,” Warin said.

The state tournament begins Saturday, May 18. The Wolverines will play Wahkiakum at 1 p.m. at Yelm High School.
