Wolverine track team heads to state

Seven of the 20 Friday Harbor High School track and field players will compete at the 1B and 2B State Championships on Thursday, May 24 through Saturday, May 26 at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.

“My guys, they performed above my expectations,” said coach Shannon Plummer of the boys’ and girls’ track teams. “This is the best of the best here.”

From the boys’ team, Henry Duke will perform the discus; Kenneth Hallock will run the 800 and the mile; Zach Porter will run the 110 and 300 hurdles; and Ryan Schaefer will participate in shot put and discus.

For the girls’ team, Alex Holman will run the 100 and 200; Emily Vogel will run the mile; and Zoe Wegener will perform the high jump.

The events started at 4 p.m., Thursday, May 24 and the finals are on Saturday, when Plummer hopes everyone will participate.

“Being a first-year coach, it’s kind of amazing,” said Plummer about making it to the state tournament.

Eleven track members also competed at bi-districts, last Saturday, May 19, at King’s High School. Plummer said the boys won third place and the girls won fourth.
