At 13.1 miles, the half-marathon is roughly twice the distance of the group’s first event, a 10K run/walk that drew 123 participants on a drizzly day in March.

The half-marathon run or walk gets under way at 9 a.m. outside Earthbox Motel & Spa, the event’s signature sponsor. Registration is $40, which will cover the cost of two deputies who will monitor traffic, as well as permits, insurance, water and rental of porta-potties.

Boo Boo Keene said proceeds over and above the costs of the event will be donated to the Family Resource Center.

The course proceeds west on Spring Street, veers south on Mullis Street and heads south on Cattle Point Road to False Bay Road. At the intersection of False Bay and Bailer Hill, it heads east and back to town by way of Bailer Hill, Douglas and Little roads, with Cattle Point and Mullis Street the final leg.
