Meg Drye made a hole in one at San Juan Golf and Country Club July 10.

Drye made the ace on the 109-yard No. 8, using a King Cobra 6 Baffler. It’s her first hole in one. She was golfing with her husband, Rich, and friends Michael and Cynthia Griffin.

“It was clear and sunny, and the course was moving well,” she said. “When I hit the ball, my head was down. When I looked up, the ball was going straight up the hill. I thought, ‘Oh my god, that looks really great.’ I thought it would be long, but my husband said ‘I think it’s going to go in.’ It hit the green, bounced once and went in the hole. Everybody started screaming. I was stunned, absolutely stunned.”

Drye, a 10-year golfer who lives on the No. 7, went on to shoot her best game ever – 44 on the front nine, and 90 for 18 holes.

She called the hole-in-one experience “very surreal.”

“If you’re playing nine holes, you could wrap your mind around it. But I was shooting 18 holes, and I had to continue on.”

Rich Drye said his wife’s good fortune rubbed off on him; he finished the day with 74, the first time he’s broken 80.

“I’ve never had a hole in one, and no one’s ever had one while I’ve played with them.”

It’s believed to be the first hole in one at San Juan since June 12, 2008, when Rich Rae made an ace on the 156-yard No. 6, using a 9-iron. It was his first hole in one.

On July 16, 2009, Steve Duzan of Friday Harbor made a hole-in-one at Pacific Dunes in Bandon, Ore., his fourth. He made the ace with a 9-iron on the 141-yard No. 14.
