Golfers go to state

Four Friday Harbor High School Wolverines have secured a spot in the golf state tournament and one is first alternate.

“This is the largest team we have sent to the state tournament in my 10 years of coaching,” Coach Jack Rice said. “I am proud of every one of them.”

During the bi-district golf championship on May 16, which was held at Gallery Golf Course in Oak Harbor, Ethan Havel, Peter Kulseth, Westin Swirts and Chase Wilson all scored well enough to progress to state. Jack Mason is the first alternate. The 13 players with the lowest scores will be going to state. If one of those 13 is unable to go, Mason will step in for them.

The scores at bi-districts were as follows: Havel, 92; Kulseth, 97; Swirts, 107; Wilson, 107; Mason, 108; and Teagan August, 109.

The boys traveled to Tumwater for the state championship tournament on May 21 and 22.
